Liner Notes, Credits, Other Details
Having immersed herself in Irish popular music from the last forty years, Emm, inspired by an eclectic array of talent that included Gilbert O’Sullivan, Horslips, Thin Lizzy, Ash, The Undertones, and The Thrills, among others, set upon recording an album of covers by these contemporary Irish artists. The twin themes of love and death emerged, inspiring the album’s title, and Emm produced and recorded Songs Of Love And Death enlisting help from fellow musicians Dana Feder on cello, drummer Charles DuMont and folk legend Kate McGarrigle, who added some skilled banjo to The Virgin Prunes’ ”Bau-Dachong”. Emm stripped The Corrs’ shiny, happy ”Breathless” down to piano and cello and rendered it an orchestral suicide note, while Therapy?’s ”Nowhere” was transformed into a down-home kitchen toe-tapper.
