Flevans pulls off the oldest of pop music tricks, his musical style being indescribably unique, and yet also readily accessible. His DJ sets, just like his own productions, rip up music from any and all genres and periods of music with child-like glee. From folk to funk, from the 20’s to the year 2000, Flevans’ ear for a good tune transcends normal boundaries and expectations. Having played piano and double bass in a number of jazz and funk bands (as well as some “questionable” rock bands), there is a live element in all of his productions which works in unison with the cut and paste beats and dancefloor orientated riffs. Fusing his classical musical training alongside an ear for a catchy tune, he covers a variety of music genres, from downtempo to funky beats to drum and bass.There is a strong feel good factor in his work, which encompasses everything from warm and relaxed atmospheres to infectious party vibes. Incorporating a wide range of styles perfectly suited to club and radio alike, the quirky and refreshingly upbeat sound on this lovingly crafted debut CD should Make New Friends for Flevans, whose previous vinyl singles/EP’s have been some of the fastest selling on Tru Thoughts to date. Flevans’ music has appeared on a variety of compilations and TV programmes over the past year, including the gymnastics at the 2004 Olympic Games and Kid Loco’s Another Late Night. Make New Friends is available as a 10-track album and 6-track 12” EP. The EP features 5 of the album tracks plus an exclusive mid-tempo disco track, “The Notion”, featuring the vocals of Sweet Laredo.
