Directed by Ben Younger, Prime chronicles the trials of Rafi (Uma Thurman) and Bryan (David Bloomberg) who meet just as Rafi is picking up the pieces from her recent divorce. With her psychiatrist's blessing, Rafi plunges headlong into a relationship with Bryan despite their 14-year age gap and very different socio-economic and religious backgrounds. Bryan's mother (Meryl Streep) wants him to marry a jewish girl so she discourages his relationship. Her hypocrisy is ultimately revealed when it turns out she also happens to be Rafi's psychiatrist. Once her deceipt is revealed, everyone has to come to grips with the relationship and the fact that it doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. Despite Streep's occasional overzealous portrayal of the mother, the film presents interesting portraits of 3 people coming to terms with themselves and each other in a love triangle that is more bizarre than most.
