In the wilds of 1960s Wyoming, two young men with difficult pasts, Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal), set out one summer to escape their lives atop the stark peaks of Brokeback Mountain, where they live simple, but lonely existences as sheep herders. Their camaraderie is slow in coming at first, but they soon find themselves overwhelmed by passionate emotions for one another. In the idyll of the wilderness, they experience the rapture of love and remain suspended in their amorous reality until they must return to the "real world". Both men, shaken by their own feelings and what they might mean, go their separate ways and re-enter their "normal lives" in an attempt to forget what had happened between them. The years go by and both Del Mar and Twist marry and have children with the characters portrayed by the lovely Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway.

The two men however, cannot escape each other or their feelings and continue to see one another regularly over the course of their lifetime, going away on "fishing trips" (though they curiously never bring home any fish), where they once again can live out their passion in the wilderness of the mountains. Yet where will their insatiable need to be together take them? This long-standing romance delves deeply into feelings of longing, deep love and the pain of separation coupled with obligation to family, attachment and secrecy, and fear of social reprisal that affect not only Ennis and Jack, but their loved ones as well. Based on a short story by E. Annie Proulx, this heart-wrenching story blasts open conventional ideas of what love and lovers are. Touching and tragic, this new masterpiece boasts the beautiful photography that is hallmark to Ang Lee's work and the performances of both Ledger and Gyllenhaal, as well as Williams, are definitely noteworthy come Oscar time.

DEFINITELY SEE THIS ONE!
