Mumbleweed have suffered through a few lineup changes but managed to keep things focused on this, their third full-length release since 1995. From the opening strains of "Love Placebo", Mumbleweed comfortably creates their own brand of semi-psychedelic rock simultaneously combining elements of glam-rock (Slade, Sweet, Bowie) and punk (Iggy, Clash) and post-punk into a tough yet melodic power-pop brew worthy of steady and regular consumption. Putting on this CD is like putting on an old shoe, but a lot less stinky: these guys (and gal) have been working on this CD for over a year, through a bass-player change and the loss of a guitarist, so most of these songs will be familiar to the hordes who frequent the 'Weed's shows. Jangly acoustic and electric guitars in "Gutterball" collide with the unrelenting pop hooks of "Monkey's Uncle" and "Impossible" while the Sonic Youth-inspired instrumental stylings of "Dexter's Choice" will make you want to twist, shake and mosh all at once. Check out their upcoming EP release at Barrymore’s on Nov. 17, 2000.
