This soundtrack to the recently-released movie "Jesus' Son" features what at first glance may seem an odd combination; Floyd Cramer's instrumental "Last Date" vs. Wilco, Tommy Roe bubblegum "Sweet Pea" vs. an original (another instrumental) and a Ray Charles cover by Joe Henry, the soundtrack's producer. Then there's the fiddle, accordion and pedal steel of "(Is Anybody Going to) San Antone" by Doug Sahm. But oddly enough it works, setting the mood for the 70's-based film, despite a few obvious choices like "Indian Reservation" by the Raiders and "Ballad of the Green Berets" by Barry Sadler. I haven't seen the movie but apparently it's a tale of drug use and squalor set in the seventies; other blurbs I've read suggest that this soundtrack accurately captures the feel of the movie and the general impression is that this is one of the better soundtracks out there. For Wilco fans, the two songs included are "She's A Jar" (Tweedy and Bennett) and "Airline to Heaven" (Guthrie, Bennett & Tweedy) which is also featured on the recently released "Mermaid Avenue Vol. II".
