When I bought Weezers first, “Blue”, CD I was blown away. The guitars were as big or bigger than anything I’d heard, the melodies, the harmonies, the pop were as sweet as a Beach Boys hit and the lyrics were perfect for my young, perpetually inebriated, carefree state of mind. Then came Pinkerton, their second CD and, lets just say I don’t think I made it through the whole thing twice. Now on their third time out it seems the boys have returned to form, unleashing 10 gems out into the world. OK so its not quite as catchy as their MTV hit Buddy Holy, the lyrics aren’t quite as endearing as Undone (The Sweater Song) and the sound not as fresh as when they first fused Nirvana and the Cars. No, if the Blue album deserved 5 stars then the Green album would be a 4, which is to say it’s a hell of a lot better than most of the “rock” shit I hear on the radio these days.
