Changing Lanes
Ben Affleck, Samuel L. Jackson

Released: 4/12/2002

Where Changing Lanes could have succeeded as a dark examination of the human psyche and the depths of desperation and greed, it unfortunately succeeds instead in becoming yet another feel-good American movie where everything works out in the end. Not that this should come as a shock but some interesting plot twists and crafty manoevres on the parts of the two protagonists are ultimately rendered flaccid by the made-for-TV ending - think a very very watered down Very Bad Things perhaps. Some interesting cinematography and decent acting on the parts of Affleck and Jackson make it worth a watch but do not expect any satisfaction in the end, unless you can hit "Stop" after Affleck's "today is that girl" soliloquy.
