James Hill's web site

Date: Friday December 9, 2005

Jane's current "Tootie" tour is a stripped-down, intimate affair wherein she alternates between guitar, keyboard, spoken word and pre-recorded accompaniment. Although the acoustic of the Bronson Centre are far from ideal (it used to be a high school auditorium), Jane's voice cut through from whisper to wail. The dry, thin electric guitar sound was occasionally lacking (even prompting her to refer to her new guitar style called "mosquito") but her songs are really about her voice and the lyrics. Perhaps an acoustic guitar next time?

Opener James Hill played a mean instrumental ukulele set with accompaniment from electric cello player Anne Davison who alternately bowed the cello or plucked it like a double bass adding some nice texture to Hill's "Hendrix of the ukulele" stylings...
